We will announce our winner on the weekend of January the 24th.
We’re galloping into 2026 with two new coffees and the return of the much loved El Salvador - El Cipres which flew off the shelves in December. But first up, another banger from Edinson Argote:
Edinson Argote - Grape co-ferment
Region: Huila, Colombia
Producer: Edinson Argote
Varietal: Caturra
Process: Grape co-fermented
Farm: Quebraditas Coffee farm
Elevation: 1850masl
Tasting notes: Red grape, red apple, caramel and blackberry
A little about the coffee and how we’re enjoying it…
Processing:
Harvesting: This is carried out ensuring a minimum of 90% cherry.
Floating: This ensures the removal of green, overripe and dry cherries.
Oxidation: This is done in food-grade plastic drums for 12 hours.
Pulping: The cherries are pulped dry.
Fermentation after pulping: For 24 hours in open tank in order to remove the mucilage.
Fermentation: For 72 hours at temperature below 25 degrees with a mix of ripe and specific yeast.
Fermentation completion: After 72 hours of fermentation, the coffee goes into drying which is carried out mechanically for 42 hours at 38 degrees.
Stabilisation: This is done in grainpro-type bags.
Quebraditas Coffee Farm is a family-run project dedicated to producing premium coffee with differentiated and reproducible sensory profiles thanks to fermentation processes including thermal shock and yeast inoculation. Our chiroso coffee (used in our Christmas tins last year) are also from the same project.

Best brewed as a filter coffee but also makes a delicious long black. If you’re brave enough in this chilly month, we have been loving it as a cold brew too. We've been using the Orea V4 brewer with a water temperature of 92°C.
Next up is the return of our Mexican coffee from the Ordonez family.
Mexico - Edilzar Ordonez
Region: Chiapas
Process: Washed
Varietals: Catuai, San Ramon, Villa Sarchi
MASL: 1456 - 1600m
Tasting Notes: Chocolate, caramel, red berries
Edilzar Ordonez is the brother of Rony Ordonez the producer of our 2 star Great Taste Award coffee. They both live in Ametenango de la Frontera, Chipas, a stones throw away from Huehuetenango, Guatemala. He is a son of Luis, and their 26 hectare farm is quite large by Mexican standards and he has been working the land for over 25 years.
The family cultivates more than a dozen different varieties and is highly focused on quality. His brothers, Edilzar and Minor, help him in all aspects of farm management. The families goal in owning a farm was to simply own 40 hectares of coffee producing land. However, at present they only have half the labour they need to manage his current acreage. In recent years they have invested heavily in making the farm more attractive to potential pickers; in offering better wages, free weekly food allowances and improved mechanisation on the farm to make the work easier.
Sadly, in recent years and even months, the gang situation in this area has got worse and worse. Two rival gangs are fighting for control of the border with Guatemala and in some areas they are blockading roads as a sort of ‘siege’ to try to force rival gangs out of certain towns and villages. This violence has not yet affected the Ordonez family, but they are open about their worries and they are currently not accepting any visitors.

We have opted for a medium roast for espresso which brings out a rich chocolate, caramel and red berry tasting shot. Beautiful with milk or on its own.
There we have it, a cracking start to the new year with plenty more to come. Thanks to all of our customers for making 2025 a fantastic year. Here’s to another.
