Three Medals for Fika

Whilst celebrating the 2024 Olympics, we have won three medals for our coffee and by three medals, we mean Great Taste awards. We are beyond excited to celebrate just how tasty these coffees are. Here’s what the judges had to say about our winners.

MEXICO RONY ORDONEZ

2-Star

“There is an inviting aroma on the quite lightly roasted beans. There is more on the nose with the grounds. The flavour is very complex, with stone fruit and berries, and quite a high level of acidity, It develops well on the palate and has a good balance of the fruits. With milk, it keeps the fruitiness and the lactose works well, developing a balanced sweetness with the fruit, and a satisfying, clean mouthfeel. It is well-crafted, no sharp edges, good to drink as an espresso but responding well with milk.”

SEBASTION RAMIREZ PINK BOURBON HONEY SESSION IPA

1-Star

“There are rich chocolate notes in the ground coffee and floral notes in the aroma in the cup. There are interesting fruit and floral characters washing through on the taste and delivering a coffee with body and length at the finish. A light, lemony aroma. There are some fruity notes within this coffee but we don't find them to be entirely harmonious. There are flavours competing here and we don't enjoy the clash. A bitter yet sour aftertaste.

Quality beans with a slightly varied roast. The aroma of the ground coffee is enticing and complex, with notes of hops and lemongrass dancing on the nose.  The brewed coffee has an appealing aroma of lemon peel - the flavour is all about hoppy acidity which is well balanced with toasted nut notes to give an enjoyable, tasty coffee.”

UGANDA KYONDO

1-Star

“Small, dry looking, medium roast beans. There is almost a sense of maceration on the nose with some fermentation notes. Dark amber coloured brewed coffee with an acidity and punchiness providing a lot of interest.

On the nose this has quite sharp fruity notes, On the palate it is smooth, and while not creamy, you do get the chocolate and the red fruit. There is an instant acidic hit but it develops with fruity and chocolatey notes. The ground beans certainly relay dark chocolate notes, with some fruitiness. There are berry notes in the liquor layered above the dark chocolate base. A juicy, gently sweet and characterfully fruity coffee.”

Thank you so much to the Guild of Fine Food for the wonderful praise on Fika coffee! We are excited to keep roasting our speciality coffee for our customers to enjoy. In the meantime, Mexico Rony Ordonez can be found in stock on our website, with Uganda Kyondo to return soon.
